With the rapid growth of the aging population, enhancing the efficiency and quality of elderly care services through welfare technology and artificial intelligence has become a key policy direction in healthcare and long-term care systems worldwide. In recent years, smart home sensing systems, wearable health monitoring devices, and remote health management platforms have increasingly been introduced into elderly care services. These technologies enable continuous health monitoring, chronic disease management, and home safety management within domestic environments, while establishing connections with healthcare systems through telemedicine services.
This study focuses on the application of smart technologies in elderly care and reviews existing research reports and international case studies to identify major application models in this field. The analysis categorizes current applications into several key areas, including smart home safety monitoring, remote health monitoring and chronic disease management, wearable health devices, and integrated service models such as home-based medical care and virtual wards supported by telemedicine services.
The findings indicate that the development of smart elderly care technologies is shifting from single-device applications toward integrated care service models. The key factor is not only the technology itself, but also how technological systems are embedded within existing healthcare and long-term care service processes, facilitating collaboration among medical institutions, care service providers, and family caregivers. By integrating smart home monitoring and telemedicine services, elderly care has the potential to evolve toward more real-time, personalized, and continuous care models. Based on the analysis of application models and service scenarios, this study proposes a preliminary framework for the integrated development of smart technologies in elderly care, providing insights for the future development of smart home care and telemedicine services.
